4 – Commencement

We meet at the appointed time and place for your first training session.

It will go for 90 minutes (the extra 30 minutes is provided at a substantial discount) but it’s not 90 minutes of solid high-intensity training. The initial training session is very mild to moderate in intensity and under no circumstances will you be thrown in the deep end. The last 30 minutes will be set aside for a briefing on the basics of a healthy lifestyle, nutrition and weight management and to answer any questions you might have.

The session is simply done to introduce you to a basic exercise routine at a beginner’s level, so that you won’t be overly stressed and so sore the next day that you can’t move.

Before we proceed with the exercise session I just take you through a brief and mild fitness test that gives me an idea of your pulse, respiration, mobility and flexibility.

The pulse and respiration test is where I take your pulse before, during and after you do some walking on the spot, while also monitoring your breathing and other reactions.

The mobility and flexibility test has me putting you through a few stretches and movements and recording your range of motion throughout them.

Further tests, such as demonstrating strength, are not done as you will be demonstrating these things as you proceed with your workout and only after a thorough warm up.

After this, we commence the training session. The session starts off with a warm up of stretching and callisthenic movements. After this, I take you through a handful of basic bodyweight exercises that work the major muscle groups; the exercises are modified to suit your fitness level and others can be substituted in their place, if need be.

As an alternative to this, we can do an exercise routine to your own preference, such as weight training, kick-boxercise and so on.

After this, there is a brief cardio session where I take you through the basics of powerwalking and other forms of low impact aerobic activity.

From here we go into the cooldown phase, where we slow the pace down and then commence a stretching workout that covers a handful of basic postures that aid in developing flexibility throughout the body.

After this we go into the lifestyle instruction section as mentioned earlier. Also, at the end of the session I will give you an Information Pack that contains some basic health and fitness advice, such as improving nutritional and exercise habits, weight management and so on.

As always, at the end of the session, I make time for the client to go through any issues or questions they might have about their situation and this is at no charge.

Just follow these simple steps and you will on your road to great health in no time.
